Nouvelle Idée is looking for a Design Lead to join our creative team and actively contribute to the evolution of our visual language. Working in close collaboration with our Creative Director, this person will play a central role in guiding the quality of work produced by our design team, which currently consists of four graphic designers. We are looking for someone with a strong visual sensibility, excellent craft, and, above all, the ability to help ideas and the people behind them grow. We need someone capable of having a clear vision, communicating it, challenging a proposal, and guiding a designer toward a better solution, all while remaining hands-on in the creative process. The role combines art direction, design, leadership, and collaboration. The Design Lead will work closely with creative leadership and project managers to maintain a high standard of quality, ensure consistency across various projects, and collectively evolve the design practice at Nouvelle Idée. Our mandates span several industries, with a particularly strong presence in the food & beverage, art, culture, and music sectors. We specialize in visual identity, art direction for advertising campaigns, packaging, web, and brand experiences.

THE ROLE

‍As a Design Lead, you will be responsible for supporting and elevating the quality of the design team's work, from initial brainstorming to final delivery. Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Mentor, support, and foster the growth of a team of four graphic designers by providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and the tools needed to push every project further.
• Work closely with the Creative Director to develop and maintain visual consistency and the agency's creative quality standards.
• Take the design lead on select projects, from research and concept development to the creation and execution of visual systems.
• Actively participate in the development of visual identities, advertising campaigns, packaging, web platforms, and other brand experiences.
• Ensure the quality and consistency of deliverables produced by the team before they are presented or finalized.
• Challenge creative proposals and help the team transform good ideas into stronger, more distinctive, and better-executed solutions.
• Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure effective workload distribution, anticipate creative needs, and maintain a balance between ambition, deadlines, and budgets.
• Participate in client meetings and be able to present, explain, and defend a creative direction with confidence.
• Actively participate in pitches and new business opportunities, particularly in the development of concepts, mood boards, mockups, and presentations.
• Contribute to the evolution of the agency’s workflows, tools, references, and design standards.
• Remain involved in execution when necessary. This role is, above all, that of a designer who leads through their work as much as through their direction.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience in graphic design, ideally within an agency, design studio, or similar creative environment.
• Proven experience leading creative projects and mentoring other designers.
• Portfolio demonstrating a strong sensibility for brand identity, art direction, and visual systems.
• Excellent understanding of typography, composition, color, imagery, and craft.
• Ability to move naturally from conceptual thinking to execution.
• Ability to provide clear, relevant, and motivating feedback.
• Natural, ego-free leadership with a genuine desire to elevate the work collectively.
• Ability to present and defend concepts to a team or client.
• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Deep curiosity for design, photography, art, fashion, culture, and contemporary creative movements.
• Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.
• Advanced proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
• Experience in web and digital design is considered a significant asset.
• Skills in motion design, 3D, or other complementary creative disciplines are an asset.
• Experience in packaging and knowledge of print production realities are an asset.

‍Work location: we prioritize working from our office at 94A Laurier Avenue West, in Montreal. Given the collaborative nature of the role, studio presence is important. The individual will also need to be available to meet with our clients in Montreal as needed. One day of remote work per week is possible when it does not interfere with operations and project workflows.

‍Schedule: we prefer standard office hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, the position requires some flexibility depending on projects, productions, and presentations.

‍Vacation: 4 weeks starting from the first year, consisting of 2 weeks during the holiday season and 2 weeks to be taken throughout the year.

THE ROLE

As a graphic designer on our creative team, your mission will be to conceive and execute impactful visual projects across various media (print, web, social media, advertising, etc.), in close collaboration with the rest of the team. Here are the main responsibilities of the role:

• Actively participate in the art direction of ongoing projects, ensuring visual consistency and brand identity for our clients.
• Design and produce innovative and cohesive graphic projects for various media (print, web, social media, etc.).
• Collaborate closely with other team members to meet the specific creative needs of each client.
• Participate in developing visual concepts and creating mockups for a variety of projects (visual identity, packaging, advertising campaigns, websites, social media, etc.).
• Propose creative solutions while respecting technical constraints and client communication objectives.
• Manage and adapt graphic projects based on client feedback, ensuring their satisfaction.

• Participate occasionally in brainstorming and creative development sessions for new projects.
